Melt Shop Shift Supervisor
BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for the supervision and coordination of an assigned shift of the Beaumont Steel Mill Melt Shop engaged in the production of steel, which would include electric furnace operation, ladle metallurgy station and associated duties.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Under the direction of the Production Manager, this position is primarily accountable for the supervision of an operating shift of the Melt Shop. While the incumbent is restricted in decision making in certain areas (major breakdowns, serious labor problems, selection of materials), incumbent is given considerable latitude in the operation of the shift. This position reports to the Production Manager. Reporting to the incumbent are 15 shift employees.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Responsible for production of prescribed quality of product.
2. Responsible for production of scheduled tons of steel.
3. Responsible for proper, efficient and effective work methods.
4. Responsible for proper operation and utilization of equipment to prevent
damage and minimize repair.
5. Responsible for the diagnosis and subsequent solution of breakdown
problems.
6. Responsible for employee selection, training, evaluation and discipline.
7. Responsible for administering safety programs.
8. Responsible for departmental housekeeping.
9. Responsible for carrying out corporate policy and programs.
10. Responsible for leading team activities to accomplish improvement goals.
The incumbent must have six (6) to eight (8) years experience in steel making methods and techniques to include: basic metallurgical knowledge; broad melt shop background equivalent to a complete accredited apprenticeship training in order to produce over 100 different grades of carbon, SBQ, low residual steel; experience in arc furnace, continuous casting operations, the operation of cranes and other heavy equipment, and the ability to diagnose breakdown maintenance problems and direct the maintenance repair function.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Provide technical coordination support for the Melt Shop or Rolling Mill to include the development and refinement of operating procedures for the electric arc furnace, caster, rolling mills, finishing equipment, and all related auxiliary equipment, ladle, and the processing and handling of scrap and finished product.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position is primarily responsible for developing, refining, and communicating the engineering and operating data needed to produce billets and finished products. This position reports to the department superintendent or General Supervisor of Operations or Maintenance.
Although there are no employees reporting directly to this position, the incumbent does provide advisory and training responsibilities for other exempt and hourly production and maintenance employees. The incumbent should have a basic knowledge of metallurgy and an understanding of steel manufacturing and techniques used in the melting, refining, and casting of molten steel or modern rolling practices.
The incumbent must be able to apply engineering fundamentals to the continuous improvement efforts of production and maximize the efficiency of the overall department operation. Qualifications include possession of abilities and knowledge as may be demonstrated by one with a complete college education in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related engineering curriculum, as well as 3 to 5 years of related work experience.

Job Description
This position is primarily responsible for planning and coordinating proactive maintenance activities on equipment, with involvement in projects and maintenance activities that will improve the reliability of the equipment. The ARP Planner will develop job plans for all planned maintenance, predictive and preventive technologies, in conjunction with reliability technicians, reliability engineers, mill operations, maintenance personnel and suppliers.
This position serves in an advisory capacity to support and coordinate the ARP maintenance management for scheduled and project maintenance to improve equipment reliability. This position does not have direct reports, but will facilitate down-days and outages by establishing planned work with operations, maintenance, reliability, and engineering. The ARP Planner coordinates the work execution on down-days and outage to ensure planned work compliance and quality. This position has direct responsibility for planning and scheduling proactive maintenance and project work on all equipment at their assigned location(s).
BASIC FUNCTION:
Maintenance Planner will provide coordination, direction and support for implementing and sustaining Asset Reliability Processes (ARP) to improve safety, equipment reliability, and product quality at optimum efficiency and costs by:
a) Planning proactive maintenance including preventive, predictive, corrective maintenance, and project work.
b) Managing non-emergency work and planned work backlog.
c) Developing procedures to improve safety, lower costs, and optimize resources.
d) Scheduling proactive maintenance work using a formal, systematic, and analytical approach.
e) Participating in the development of Annual Action Plans.
f) Training maintenance and operation personnel.
g) Conducting routine safety and maintenance activities including audits, maintenance task evaluations, employee contacts, and visibility tours as assigned.
h) Ensuring that safety rules and requirements are being followed in all work areas.
i) Maintaining compliance with visual management standards.
Qualifications for this position include a two-year degree -OR- advanced technical training with at least 5 years experience with a high level of mastery discipline. The incumbent must have a mastery level knowledge of heavy manufacturing or other related maintenance engineering activities. The successful candidate will possess an extensive working knowledge of maintenance concepts and techniques with demonstrated expertise in asset reliability technology and systems. The ARP Planner will be responsible for staying abreast of current technology and recommending changes to effect continual improvement of asset reliability and manufacturing processes.
The ARP Planner reports to the Reliability Manager. The incumbent will work closely with operations and maintenance departments. This position will be responsible for building detailed job plans, ordering parts and services for planned work, preparing work packages, managing the backlog for planned work, and ensuring proper data management. This position is responsible for any modification to the preventive and predictive maintenance programs that might reduce maintenance cost and downtime. The ARP Planner must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, have the ability to work independently or in a team environment, perform and prioritize a variety of tasks with minimal supervision, and have a broad knowledge of computer software applications.
An ARP Planner will participate and assist with training programs for the maintenance and operations personnel regarding equipment care, new operating equipment, software, methodologies, and procedures. Due to close contact with operations, maintenance, engineering, and outside contractors and vendors, this position requires the ability to effectively communicate with associates at all levels outside and within the organization. The ARP Planner must manage the interests of all parties in creating and modifying work procedures and equipment. This position will also be required to manage other projects or duties as assigned.

Nature and Responsibilities:
The Safety Manager reports directly to the Optimus Steel Vice President of Operations.
This position is responsible for assessing current loss prevention and control efforts (in the area of safety and health) and making recommendations to management for improvement. The incumbent will assist management with the strategic development and implementation of a management accountability system aimed at preventing and controlling losses by identifying and developing role definitions for all levels of the organization; identifying and delivering training to enable performance of roles; developing and implementing a measurement system to evaluate the effectiveness of the overall management system; developing and implementing reward/recognition systems congruent with performance expectations; and developing and implementing communication systems to effectively communicate safety and health issues throughout the organization.
The incumbent evaluates risks and develops guidelines for roles, training, measurements, and rewards for the management system in the areas of employee safety (behaviors, conditions that lead to accidents); industrial hygiene (noise, lead exposure, hazard communication, etc.); property protection (fire suppression systems, inspection procedures, etc.); post Injury and General Claims Management (all lines); OSHA compliance (lockout/tagout, confined space entry, fall protection, OSHA record keeping, etc.); contractors; and job safety analysis.
The incumbent actively participates in accident prevention activities to include inspections, observations, and incident investigations. This position acts in an advisory capacity to management and liaison with OSHA inspections and correspondence.
Qualifications:
The incumbent should possess a bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, or other appropriate technical discipline and 5-7 years’ safety management experience (manufacturing environment preferred), or a masters degree in safety, engineering, or other appropriate technical discipline and 3-5 years’ safety management experience (manufacturing environment preferred). Also desirable is 3-5 years’ facilitation experience in problem solving, communication, quality improvement and other typical facilitation experience. The incumbent should also possess certifications from recognized training and development organizations to deliver their programs.
Excellent communication skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional applications are required. Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred.

Job Description
Primary Function: Plan and perform the operation of an electric powered crane mounted on a railroad-type chassis to properly grade and unload scrap from railroad cars and trucks and to reload scrap for transfer to the melt shop. Stockpile as needed following procedures and sequences.
Tools & Equipment: Overhead Dual Magnet Electric Crane
Materials: Scrap metal
Responsibilities:
1. Operates Overhead dual magnet crane to perform the following:
a. Identify various scrap grades and quality, generally repetitive and routine in nature, requiring much care to effectively service the melt shop and safely operate the crane.
b. Operate the crane almost continuously with magnet-type lifting devices.
c. Monitor scrap supply in the melt shop and load scrap as needed.
d. Load scrap according to selected recipe in QMOS and report any changes to supervisor.
e. Coordinates scrap deliveries to the bay from the Scrap Yard with Scrap Yard Operators to ensure continuous supply of scrap is on hand.
f. Help to identify causes/location of suspect scrap for residuals out of spec and report to supervisor any findings.
g. Load melt shop charge buckets.
2. Checks over all working conditions of crane and fills out safety check list, reports discrepancies to supervisor.
3. Assist maintenance personnel in the repair of the crane.
4. Operates the crane in accordance with plant safety procedures and established practices. 5. Keeps crane in a clean and orderly condition.

Duties & Responsibilities
Weigh and record in the appropriate database all in‐bound and out‐bound rail cars including putting railcars on hold when discrepancies arise, supply the Melt Shop with all required scrap in order to support the melting process, follow all rail safety guidelines per switchman training program, manage scrap inventory accuracy, and maintain all required documentation for all logistical movements. Detect and report faulty material, environmental hazards, and/or improper operation of plant equipment or machinery; refer questionable and unusual matters to proper supervision. This position reports to scrap yard management and the melting supervisor. Responsibilities include operation of locomotives, railcar movements (switching) and the operation of material handling equipment and overhead cranes. This is a 24/7 shift position with work performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
Scrap Yard Operators support all scrap delivery and consumption including initial quality and environmental inspection, weighing, data entry, recordkeeping and reporting and inventory management. Pre use inspection and responsible management of equipment is required.
Rail – Scrap Yard Operators are responsible for safe rail movement to support plant operations. Including strategic and timely movement of scrap to the melt shop and providing railcars for all other operational needs.
Material Handler- Scrap Yard Operators load and unload materials as needed with hydraulic material handlers. Material may be loaded or unloaded from truck, rail, or barge.
Overhead Crane- Scrap Yard Operators use overhead cranes to load charge buckets for the furnace. Based on melt schedule and scrap recipes they are key in loading buckets to meet grade requirements. They are responsible for communication of upcoming scrap needs to ensure the prompt delivery of scrap grades to support production.

Engineering resp in the smelting of steel for reuse, incl develop/refinement of op proced. Review monitor systems/determine ways to improve comp operations. Create analytical proc. Analyze capital expenditures/project designs cut costs; prov specialist tech input team project work; prov input/evaluation recovery estimates; developing, bring industry best practices/new tech. Oversee the development/maintenance long- and short-term proc plans. Prep/review project proposals, studies/technical reports. Oversee cost effective, safe/timely completion projects. Coord operational info/data for operating dep, prep/ completion blueprints for additions, install, maint, repair purposes. Prep drawings, sketches for modifications mach/equip/layouts. Prep all data sheets, diagrams, flow charts for correct/efficient op of equip. Prov input into prep programs comp control syst.
