This position reports to scrap yard management and the melting supervisor. Responsibilities include operation of locomotives, railcar movements (switching) and the operation of material handling equipment and overhead cranes. This is a 24/7 shift position with work performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
Scrap Yard Operators support all scrap delivery and consumption including initial quality and environmental inspection, weighing, data entry, recordkeeping and reporting and inventory management. Pre use inspection and responsible management of equipment is required.
Rail – Scrap Yard Operators are responsible for safe rail movement to support plant operations. Including strategic and timely movement of scrap to the melt shop and providing railcars for all other operational needs.
Material Handler- Scrap Yard Operators load and unload materials as needed with hydraulic material handlers. Material may be loaded or unloaded from truck, rail, or barge.
Overhead Crane- Scrap Yard Operators use overhead cranes to load charge buckets for the furnace. Based on melt schedule and scrap recipes they are key in loading buckets to meet grade requirements. They are responsible for communication of upcoming scrap needs to ensure the prompt delivery of scrap grades to support production.

Primary Function: To operate the 120 ton EOT Crane. Coordinate between Scrap Yard and Furnace, charges furnace with scrap and fills alloy hoppers.
- Hook scrap buckets and transport to the furnace
- Empty scrap bucket into the furnace
- transport various materials over the melt floor
- remove old and position new electrodes
- remove excess scrap from furnace with Crane.
- add refractory materials to the furnace
- Assist maintenance personnel in the repair of the crane
- Checks overall working condition of the crane and fills out check-off sheet
- Operates crane in accordance to plant safety procedures and established practices
- Coordinate the moving of the crane with the affected crews to avoid delays or production problems.
- Fill alloy hoppers
- Coordinates between the Scrap and Furnace crew to meet the requirement for the melting process
- Operates the remote control for the scrap car to position the scrap bucket for use
Tools & Equipment: 90 Ton EOT Crane, remote scrap cars, hooks, scrap buckets, chains, cables, additive skips.
Materials: scrap, furnace material, electrodes, alloys, refractory materials, maintenance equipment.

The Refractoryman reports to the Refractory Supervisor and is responsible of removing, repairing and rebuilding the refractory material in vessels; Prepares and set slide gates and nozzles in ladles and tundish; repairs and calibrates tundish nozzle shooters.
Tools and Equipment: trowel, mason hammer, ladder, level, pneumatic hammer, air and water hoses, scaffolds, brick saw, electric mixer, shovels, hoe, pneumatic refractory gun, remote control crane, forklift, small frond end loader, cutting torch, oxygen lance, rigging apparatus, vibrators, turret platform, gas drier, etc.
Materials: laddles, ladle lids, tundish, furnace, delta, various types of refractory material, bonding material, coating material, various types and sizes of bricks, blocks, sleeves, heat shields, etc.
Primary Duties:
1. Assessment and proper install of refractory material in needed applications.
2. Set up, tear out and installation of EAF patches and Relines.
3. Equipment maintenance of ladles, tundishes, slidegates, tundish gates and equipment used for these applications
4. Proper Housekeeping of Refractory, slidegate, and nozzle tech areas.
5. Work with team and tools for safe and adequate working environment.
Qualifications for this position includes one year of experience with the related tools, equipment and materials.
