The incumbent works from schedules, orders, and instructions to assign work to personnel on the basis of operational sequence and labor skills. Confers with supervisor on succeeding shift covering the same information. The incumbent ensures that adequate personnel, materials, supplies, tools, and equipment are available for assigned shift work. The incumbent establishes work methods and procedures for breakdown and preventive maintenance programs, coordinates with production personnel in order to minimize downtime.  In conjunction with Melt Shop Superintendent establishes maintenance inventory of replacement parts and equipment through requisitions to the Office Manager.  Insuring security of the inventory as well as the adequacy of supply.

The General Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for subordinate selection, training, evaluation, discipline, motivation and safety.  Accountable for employee compliance with established safety procedures.

Incumbent checks work in progress to insure proper maintenance is being performed, anticipates problems, investigates inadequate equipment performance and takes corrective action.

The incumbent is also responsible for general maintenance activities, repairs, and preventive maintenance related to the baghouse area and the electrical substation.

The ARP Planner coordinates the work execution on down-days and outage to ensure planned work compliance and quality.  This position has direct responsibility for planning and scheduling proactive maintenance and project work on all equipment at their assigned location(s).

Basic Function:

Maintenance Planner will provide coordination, direction  and support for implementing and sustaining Asset Reliability Processes (ARP) to improve safety, equipment reliability, and product quality at optimum efficiency and costs by:

a) Planning proactive maintenance including preventive, predictive, corrective maintenance, and project work.

b) Managing non-emergency work and planned work backlog.

c) Developing procedures to improve safety, lower costs, and optimize resources.

Qualifications for this position include a two-year degree -OR- advanced technical training with at least 5 years experience with a high level of mastery discipline. The incumbent must have a mastery level knowledge of heavy manufacturing or other related maintenance engineering activities. The successful candidate will possess an extensive working knowledge of maintenance concepts and techniques with demonstrated expertise in asset reliability technology and systems. The ARP Planner will be responsible for staying abreast of current technology and recommending changes to effect continual improvement of asset reliability and manufacturing processes.

The ARP Planner reports to the Reliability Manager. The incumbent will work closely with operations and maintenance departments. This position will be responsible for building detailed job plans, ordering parts and services for planned work, preparing work packages, managing the backlog for planned work, and ensuring proper data management. This position is responsible for any modification to the preventive and predictive maintenance programs that might reduce maintenance cost and downtime. The ARP Planner must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, have the ability to work independently or in a team environment, perform and prioritize a variety of tasks with minimal supervision, and have a broad knowledge of computer software applications.

An ARP Planner will participate and assist with training programs for the maintenance and operations personnel regarding equipment care, new operating equipment, software, methodologies, and procedures. The incumbent is responsible for implementing and setting priorities for preventive maintenance programs which includes motor greasing, brush replacement and maintenance, cooling & filter maintenance, cycle out motors for cleaning, greasing and bearing replacement.  Also has responsibility to troubleshoot and repair electronic systems including PLC’s and instrumentation.

Incumbent is responsible for subordinate selection, training, evaluation, discipline, motivation and safety.  Accountable for employee compliance with established safety procedures.

Challenges for the incumbent involve minimizing production downtime by proper scheduling and planning of work.  The Maintenance Supervisor checks work in progress to insure proper maintenance is being performed, anticipates problems and investigates inadequate equipment performance and takes corrective action.

Under the guidance of Reliability Manager, performs in-house Predictive Maintenance (Pd.M.) services; as well as technical assistance to production, Maintenance Departments, Engineering, project management and outside consultants/contractors. Provides training when needed concerning Predictive Maintenance (Pd.M.) throughout the facility.

This position generates and oversees a predicted workload of future potential failures. The maintenance staff is responsible for correcting these potential problems, but this position may assist with troubleshooting and failure analysis to support these corrections.

Supports the vision, mission, and quality goals of Optimus Steel. Especially supports the guidance and vision of the Equipment Reliability Process (ERP).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate Asset Reliability scheduling and planning activities as required.

  • Assist asset reliability manager when required for support of the PM and Pd.M. effort.

Detect and report faulty material, environmental hazards, and/or improper operation of plant equipment or machinery; refer questionable and unusual matters to proper supervision. Maintain work area and equipment in a clear and orderly fashion. Follow all safety regulations and practices.

Qualifications:

The incumbent should possess a bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, or other appropriate technical discipline and 5-7 years’ safety management experience (manufacturing environment preferred), or a masters degree in safety, engineering, or other appropriate technical discipline and 3-5 years’ safety management experience (manufacturing environment preferred). Also desirable is 3-5 years’ facilitation experience in problem solving, communication, quality improvement and other typical facilitation experience. The incumbent should also possess certifications from recognized training and development organizations to deliver their programs.

Excellent communication skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional applications are required. Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred.

Job Description

Primary Function:  Plan and perform the operation of an electric powered crane mounted on a railroad-type chassis to properly grade and unload scrap from railroad cars and trucks and to reload scrap for transfer to the melt shop. Stockpile as needed following procedures and sequences.

Tools & Equipment:  Overhead Dual Magnet Electric Crane

Materials: Scrap metal

Responsibilities:

1. Operates Overhead dual magnet crane to perform the following:

a. Identify various scrap grades and quality, generally repetitive and routine in nature, requiring much care to effectively service the melt shop and safely operate the crane.

b. Operate the crane almost continuously with magnet-type lifting devices.

c. Monitor scrap supply in the melt shop and load scrap as needed.

d. Load scrap according to selected recipe in QMOS and report any changes to supervisor.

e. Coordinates scrap deliveries to the bay from the Scrap Yard with Scrap Yard Operators to ensure continuous supply of scrap is on hand.

f. Help to identify causes/location of suspect scrap for residuals out of spec and report to supervisor any findings.

g. Load melt shop charge buckets.

2. Checks over all working conditions of crane and fills out safety check list, reports discrepancies to supervisor.

3. Assist maintenance personnel in the repair of the crane.

4. Operates the crane in accordance with plant safety procedures and established practices. 5. Keeps crane in a clean and orderly condition.

Job Description

This position reports to scrap yard management and the melting supervisor.  Responsibilities include operation of locomotives, railcar movements (switching) and the operation of material handling equipment and overhead cranes.  This is a 24/7 shift position with work performed outdoors in all weather conditions.

Scrap Yard Operators support all scrap delivery and consumption including initial quality and environmental inspection, weighing, data entry, recordkeeping and reporting and inventory management.  Pre use inspection and responsible management of equipment is required.

Rail – Scrap Yard Operators are responsible for safe rail movement to support plant operations. Including strategic and timely movement of scrap to the melt shop and providing railcars for all other operational needs.

Material Handler- Scrap Yard Operators load and unload materials as needed with hydraulic material handlers.  Material may be loaded or unloaded from truck, rail, or barge.

Overhead Crane- Scrap Yard Operators use overhead cranes to load charge buckets for the furnace.  Based on melt schedule and scrap recipes they are key in loading buckets to meet grade requirements.   They are responsible for communication of upcoming scrap needs to ensure the prompt delivery of scrap grades to support production.

This position reports to the Shipping Supervisor and is responsible for operating a diesel or propane powered forklift and coil loader primarily to the transfer, warehousing and inventory of wire rod and coiled rebar products from the rolling mill, the shipment of these products to the customer, and the status of products and shipments.

Tools and Equipment: Diesel or propane powered forklift, coil loader, handheld scanner, and necessary computer applications.

Materials: Billets, coiled wire rod, and rebar of various sizes and grades.

Requirements

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Inspects forklifts, coil loaders at the beginning of each shift, services as necessary and reports all discrepancies.

2. Operates forklift to perform several tasks.

3. Maintain traffic flow in the coal storage yard, billing all outbound products by truck, rail and barge.

4. Check each outbound truck load for accuracy. Ensure that all customer requirements have been met as requested on the shipping documentation.

5. Accurately tally and tag all inbound/outbound billets via railcar or trucks.

6. Perform cycle counts according to the posted schedule.

This position reports to the Billet Yard Coordinator and Billet Yard Supervisor.   The main responsibility for this role is to operate crane to remove billets from the casting machine cooling bed, to charge Rolling Mill feed table and to move and load billets as directed in the main yard and G-bay as required by policies and procedures set forth.  The Burner/Crane Operator will remove scrap billets from the cutting area  to the scrap rail car or scrap pile as needed.

The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor is primarily responsible for the supervision of a crew engaged in breakdown, rebuild and preventive maintenance programs to minimize production downtime due to equipment failure.  This position reports to the General Supervisor, Melt Shop Maintenance.  Reporting to the incumbent are approximately 19 hourly skilled maintenance electricians.

The incumbent is responsible for maintenance and installation of melt shop equipment and systems (mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic) including cranes, scrap handling equipment and other service equipment.

The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for implementing and setting priorities for the preventive maintenance program which includes Mechanical transformers, substitutions, all Melt Shop Mechanical equipment, overhead crane Mechanical systems, PLC’s, and all Melt Shop HVAC equipment.

Incumbent is responsible for subordinate selection, training, evaluation, discipline, motivation and safety.  Accountable for employee compliance with established safety procedures.
